Spacious 5 bedroom, 3.5 bath family home located in a gated community along one of the largest beaches in Santa Cruz County. Enjoy the sunset while relaxing in the large hot tub with your favorite beverage. Life doesn't get any better. Large deck is great for gathering with plenty of seating and a large gas barbecue. Main house offers an open living, dining, kitchen concept and a half bath. Down the hall is the master bedroom offering a king bed, ocean side deck and hot tub access, large master bath and laundry. This beach front home has a second unit, completely upstairs with the remainder of the bedrooms over the carport. The main entry to this unit is from the gated atrium, once inside walk into a family room facing the ocean. This separate unit offers a large living area with a game table, plenty of seating and large flat screen TV, as well as four bedrooms and two baths. There are two rooms facing the ocean, one with a king bed and one with a queen; the other two rooms facing the street, offering two sets of twin bunk beds and one queen. Enjoy all Monterey Bay has to offer while staying in this centrally located beach home. Just a short drive to downtown Santa Cruz or Fisherman’s wharf in Monterey. This area offers an extensive amount of activities, from fishing, whale watching, kayaking, hiking, and biking, just to name a few.

  We absolutely loved our stay. The home is right on the beach so we were able to enjoy our walks by the ocean, have drinks and meals on the lovely deck and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.
  This home is perfect for a family or group of friends. Private bedrooms and and a wonderfully large kitchen, family room and dining area. We will be back.

  This was our 2 year staying at this gorgeous beach house. Plenty of space for all of us. Right on the beach! Enjoyed the beautiful deck and great outside furniture the whole time. Saw numerous whales, dolphins, otters, seals and pelicans. Fun had by all! We will be back!

  We have rented this house for several years for a small family reunion during Thanksgiving week. It is large and comfortable for our purposes. It allows dogs, a strong plus for us. Be aware that four of the five bedrooms are in a separate building behind the main building.

  This is one of our favorite places to go! It’s very family friendly, clean and with gorgeous ocean views. The kitchen has a view of the beach and is equipped to cook. I enjoy watching the kids play on the beach while cooking. There’s so much wildlife. In the early morning it’s very glassy out there and people paddle board. Most of the time the surf is perfect for kids. Cheshire Rio is also a nice responsive company and always takes good care of us.

  We had the whole family come. We loved the beach house! It was big enough that all of us had our own space. Loved that there was 3 and 1/2 bathrooms. The beach was beautiful and wonderful to walk on. Spent many hours on the beach and on the wonderful deck. We will be back next summer!

  The only complaint I have and have had for the past 5 to 10 years is the living room and patio furniture are very uncomfortable and old. I have been renting this same house for almost 30years and it is still the same uncomfortable furniture. For the price it should be new and comfortable. If the layout and management were not so good I would find a new place.

  We've rented this property for 1 week a year for about 10 years. And it's perfect for our family!
  This year the flooring had been redone with laminate flooring. Not only does it looks great but definitely seemed cleaner. A new built-in cabinet was added in the kitchen. It was a GREAT addition!
  One of the bathtubs was clogged but a plumber was out in a couple of hours.
  The BBQ propane tank was empty but the office brought us a new tank within an hour. So timing of dinner was not affected.
  This year the weather was perfect! Only one foggy morning but defintely cleared up early! Coming here is always a welcome exchange from the very hot central valley so the cooler temps are perfect!
  This has always made for a great family vacation and Cheshire-Rio is a very professional rental company.

  Just delightful aside from Hot Tub. At check in they told us cover had a rip and new cover on order but they did not tell us that because of that the top tub cover was so heavy that when opened could not be put back up in place. not good for safety or keeping the heat in ergo limited use. Another problem was early hrs key turn in - mail slot is not big enough to accept remote gate opener so had to find neighborhood business with a screw driver so could remove back clip. All else very pleasurable!!!!

  This place is wonderful. The homeowners recently painted, changed all flooring and redid some cabinets in the kitchen. Although these are nice improvements, in my opinion they should have purchased néw furniture. We have been renting over twenty five years. It is still the same furnishings. The beds have been changed a couple of times I have been told. They still need changing. The living room furniture looks good but it is old and very uncomfortable. We only keep coming to the same place because of the rental agency which has been first rate, the setup and location. After this review, who knows. Maybe they will not let me rent again. The picture is when they purchased new picnic tables. I an not camping there, I am at the beach. We need nice tables and chairs on the deck, not splintering camping tables. Enough said, I still love the place and the rental agency.

  This property offers something fo everyone. You can play games at the tables inside and out while you watch the waves tool in. Spend sometime in the hot tube or lounging on the beach. For those that want to head to the boardwalk or the Santa Cruz pier you have a shor drive to these locations and many other in the Santa Cruz area. All in all it was a great week for our whole family from 75 years old to 1 1/2 years old. Thanks for a great week!!

  The location was great but definitely needs some upgrades. The furniture was extremely uncomfortable in the front room. There weren’t any screens on any of the windows and if you left the sliding door open to hear the ocean or for fresh air the kitchen and front room would be full of flies and mosquitoes. I was told at check out the the screens were ordered. The hot tub a was absolutely amazing though. The kitchen even though it’s a large space which is great could use updated utensils there were several with what looked like rust on them.

  We've stayed at 636 Beach Drive several times with family, and have rented it ourselves a couple of times, and we will continue to rent it as often as we can. The location is ideal, and it's the only house that's on the beach, has a hot tub on the deck, and that allows dogs. We live in town, and this is like our second home. It's not chichi chic, it's an old California beach bungalow that's like your favorite hoodie: very comfortable and perfect for the beach.
  
  The only complaint is the hot tub needs work: It shuts down often, even when no-one is using it, but the maintenance crew showed us a simple reset we can use to keep it working. Management has said they are working with the owner to get this fixed.

  The property managers are great. I’ve been renting here for more than 25 years, and have had no unresolved issues. This stretch of beach on Rio Del Mar is super quiet, it’ll feel like a private beach. Though not a private beach, folks have to haul their stuff down the beach.....most stay close to the public restrooms near the gate. The house is great. Beds are super comfortable. Linens are high quality. And the hot tub is awesome! And, if you like beach walks, this is the beach for you. Check it out on google maps. You can easily do a 90 minute walk.

  Had a great stay at this prime location in Aptos/Rio Del Mar in October 2020. The house itself is pretty basic, but you cannot beat the location! Being ON the sand is amazing and is SO worth the extra cost. The kids were able to play in the sand and surf while still being visible from the house, and we saw dolphins and a sea lion! October is a fantastic time to go to the beach. This is the second time we have stayed in a Cheshire Rio property behind the gates and we had no problems. It was perfect for our three families (6 adults, 4 kids) and fit us very comfortably. Everything was clean, and it was a bonus to have a hot tub to sit in and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine. I would definitely rent this house again.
